1858 - When his family moved to Sydney, the 13-year-old George Reid obtained his first job as a clerk in a city merchant's "counting house" .
1860 - Whilst still a teenager, at the age of 15, George joined a debating society, where he demonstrated a considerable talent for debating.
1864 - At the age of 19, he went from the counting house to the rapidly growing public service. He got a position as a assistant accountant at the Colonial Treasury, he worked there for the next 14 years. He also gained a post in the New South Wales Treasury and progressed to chief branch clerk.
1878 - He published several books on political questions
1879 - Reid studied law while working and became a barrister in this year.
1894 - He rose to become Premier of New South Wales in 1894.
1901 - He supported and campaigned for Federation of the Australian colonies.
1901 to 1904 - Opposition Leader
1904 to 1905 - Elected as Prime Minister for Australia but he only lasted for 10 months and 17 days.
